IS TEACHERS DAY REALLY HONOUR OUR TEACHERS?

My thoughts on this Teacher's Day:
For some time now I have hesitated in updating my employment status. I have worked with university students previously but this year i decided to work in a school. I currently work as a reading specialist at an IB school. I am shocked (read: disappointed) at the comments of so many people around me about my new job. Comments like "you just did your masters, why are you working in a school?" Or "Why don't you join a real organization?" What I fail to understand is...why should I not be entrusted with the future brains of my country after I have a masters degree in hand? Should i have been less educated to teach your children?
Parents in Pakistan want the best education for their children, they want the best teachers, they will go to great lengths to educate their children and bear an immense financial burden-a nation obsessed with grades- but when you tell someone you are a teacher, they are not impressed...what is this hypocrisy? And what exactly is a "real" job? What is more real than educating a child? What is more real than helping a child learn as he/she struggles with learning something that we all now take for granted? There was a time you couldn't say "cat"...someone taught you that...someone literally broke it down for you into "k" "a" "t" .
Pakistanis are very quick to say that education is one of the biggest problems facing this country yet teaching doesn't get the respect it deserves. Teaching is exhausting- one is constantly giving and adjusting to the diverse needs of every single child and then they say "you are just a teacher?"
Teaching is not about going into a room and delivering a lesson- its about relationships- everyone we know has been impacted by a teacher in one way or the other. Yes, we all may have had that one horrible teacher but there's good and bad people in every profession.
When I was a grad student in Chicago, my dorm was next to a school, I passed by it every day for my daily walk to class- I was amazed to see benches and trees planted in honor of teachers' service..."this bench is dedicated to etc etc for her 10 years of service at etc etc school ". I cannot think of a more beautiful gesture.
The education system needs serious reform and we all need to come together on this in the best way we can. There is a lot of talk of "alternative education" which caters to the creative side of every child- why is this "alternative"? This should be mainstream education and then we wouldn't need an alternative! Given the right environment every child can thrive and excel and teachers are essential for this process.
Teaching and teachers need to get the respect they deserve or more people will join "real" organizations, leaving behind the not so educated to teach our country's future.

THIS GIRL'S CLOSE DEATH ENCOUNTER WITH A KILLER WILL OPEN YOUR EYES !

When my friends first told me about the rogue stabber, I did not want to know more. My brain said: let's pretend this doesn't exist, let's not let him ruin the precarious safety assigned to my days.
But one cannot avoid these things. Yesterday, the count went up to 11 women: even a little girl. Apparently the assaulter picks them at random, from the zooming view on his motorbike, and slashes across their bodies -- literally -- with a sharp instrument. Today I learned that the instrument is not a dagger as people suspected, but a small surgical knife, incapable of killing, sure, but edged with the promise of incredible pain.
Not just physical. There's the wound, yes, but only on the surface. The cut will heal, it will be dressed and bandaged, maybe the girl's mother will lay out fresh, comfortable sheets on her bed so she can rest, throw in a few extra pillows, maybe worried family members will scurry around the injured girl, soothing her, helping her recover until she can get back on her feet.
But then she will have to step outside again. Pain follows fear and fear is the undercurrent all female bodies carry; in fact, our trans sisters have been forced to carry it for longer, for all of us. Already women and transfolks are policed outside, parceled around by male guardians, told where we can go and where we cannot. The city is built up as a space of hostility and danger, but those of us who frequent Karachi or Lahore streets, we make a case for the discomfort: these streetsides belong to us, yes, if we stick around long enough they (and the people within them) will get used to it, will learn to accept us.
But now there's a man going around wielding a surgical knife. He does not discriminate; he does not care for age or attire; as long as you have a vagina.
Now our families' fears are confirmed, and our well-meaning friends (the ones who tell us to stay shut inside out of 'care' rather than any impulse to protect), now their points are validated. And those of us who are women are realising that all this time, we've been directing our gaze from what has always been a threat -- no, a reality -- for khawajasiras, for those who exist outside the gender binary. We have been complicit, we have made excuses where we were not directly under the laser-beam of harm.
Now what? We can continue disregarding our well-wishers' concerns, of course we're not going to stop going outside, sitting on the sidewalk, reading a book at a dhaba. But each time we do -- each time I do now (it has hardly been 24 hours) -- and a man passes by on a motorbike, I am paralysed with fear. Fear, the undercurrent, has grown stronger.
My mother and I were walking outside the Medicare parking lot -- yesterday -- note that we were outside a hospital -- and a motorbike ambled too close to us. I've had motorbikes pass by closer, but I froze. A gust of fear. Accompanied by a sharp pain; the kind of pain that shakes you, loosens your hold upon the ground you stand upon. The possibility of threat (even if it is never confirmed) layered upon an everyday sight, a man on a bike, while numbers are rising on news reports and politicians dismissing them as exaggerations by the media-- the possibility of threat now stretching its limbs from every movement at the end of the street, was feeding a related thought: you should not be out here like this. You should start rethinking this daily dhaba business. These spaces are not yours.
From one intersection where a knife is pushed into skin that jerks and splits, the air rises and expands and delivers the violence unleashed to all other intersections; from anger and pain a blade carves trauma and uncertainty, looms its creation over the entire city.
My friends and I were at a dhaba even earlier, in our favourite spot under the tree, a space where we grow silly and talk about all sorts of meaningless things, and all we could talk about was harassment, assault, sexual abuse, or about this man out on the streets with a spirit of vengeance none of us could understand. Yet, had we not, at countless other times, encountered the same kind of anger? In police stations, in public transport, with darzis and doctors and even boyfriends, even in our own homes. So why were we even surprised. We continued swapping stories, as women often do when the topic of assault comes up, and we broke only to express our distress or outrage at the stabbing biker. The unthinkable violence of premeditated harm. The violence occurring even now as we shared stories of sexual trauma instead of unwinding over chai -- the air has expanded completely, solidified with each new gash, it now permeates our most harmless hours.
What makes men so angry? If you've read Virginia Woolf's A Room of One's Own, there's a part where she digs deeper into the violent shade of men's anger: she concludes that men's violence is a way to assert their superiority; that any creature, positioned at a higher rung, is inherently threatened by the ones on the lower rung.
Still, it stupefies me. What threw this individual into such fury that he grabbed a knife -- a weapon capable of hurting another human being -- and took it outside its station on the kitchen counter or surgical table or wherever he got it from; took it outside with the intention of fastening it inside living flesh -- is he immune to the screams that spring from pain, the wail of the stretching skin, the moan of a body realising it will never be safe anywhere?
Already, women have begun altering their habits -- as if it is we who need to change our habits. The responsibility is on you, for having a vagina. So now girls are carrying knives, pepper sprays, stones*. They're avoiding being outside unless absolutely necessary; reducing their interaction with the street, taking a Careem instead of a rickshaw, having someone pick them up right at their gate instead of down the street.
Perhaps this surgical-knife-brandishing biker was spurned by a woman, perhaps someone broke his heart. Maybe his wife was a strong, independent woman who wanted nothing to do with him anymore, so he thought, I'll show you all.
We can never be thought of as separate beings, us feminine creatures. We are held collectively responsible for whatever imagined transgression is pinned upon one of us.

Girls at Dhabas is interested in whatever we can do regarding this assaulter. But we are at a loss because we don't know what we can do. Protest? Uss se kya ho ga? Go around sharing self-defense skills? If anyone else is growing restless also, if you have seeds of ideas and want to brainstorm with us, message us. Hum kal milayn ge to discuss this; the more, the merrier.

THIS UNIVERSITY IS GOING TOO FAR WITH IT'S UNJUSTIFIABLE AND INCREASING FINES ON STUDENTS

Your university, by all the definitions in the world, is not a university. You, by all the definitions in the world, are not treated as students. You are not treated fairly, and that should be enough to shake your conscience. But I don't think you even possess a conscience. Your conscience comes alive when your university only wants it to, as we all saw recently when the parking was seized. Your conscience was never nudged before, not even slightly. Your conscience is never nudged when there is a fee hike, or when administration shuts you down vehemently.
So, the thing is that degree of oppression has reached its pinnacle. Now is the time for you to raise your voice. Do something. Do anything. Challenge them. Resist them. Show a symbolic fight. Change things. Change things because time or system or any help from any other side won't change it for you.
University is changing your course timings, without even consulting you. Because lets get one thing straight: you are not important enough to be consulted for things that directly affect you. Students are the last thing this university will ever think about, unless you do something to change it, but would that ever happen? Are you even willing to resist the draconian administration? Your course timings might not have been changed, but there'd be someone in the university in his last or second last semester, and there'd be conflict in course timings, so their degree will be delayed. And then there be someone else. So on and so forth. Ad nauseam!
Parking should not have been seized. It was a bad thing. But why university was even expecting us to protest? There's a perpetually shrinking space for dissent. There's no protest culture, no student activism, no student body. Nothing! So, where exactly are we studying. What exactly are you willing to do? What exactly are you even afraid of? Stand with the oppressor or stand with the oppressed. Don't stand in between. Don't stand with both of them. Do something for heavens sake.
By love serve one another, they say. What an ironic motto. The only apt words that should replace the current motto should be taken from Dante's inferno. The hell gate on Ferozepur road should read as “Abandon all hope ye who enter here.” This will go on. If you are not affected now, someday you might be. This is not about you and me. This is about current and upcoming students, and it's about their future. More importantly, it is just wrong. This is about time you force them to revisit their regimented modus operandi.

AN OPEN LETTER TO CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL EXAMINATIONS .

This is an open letter to the Cambridge International Examinations after the results that came out in the past few days. I just want to simply express my opinion as to how I felt after receiving my grades. Please feel free to share it.

It is so easy for you to quantify us with us a single lower case letter. It is so easy but you don’t know how the student feels. That letter is a brand on every students back regardless whether it being and A, B, C or D. It completely dehumanises every student in every single way possible to a single meaningless lower case letter. The esteemed system that is Cambridge international Examinations vows to be truly fair and just while dealing with these grades that determines every student’s life. Why wouldn’t it be? Surely they know that every student slaves away whenever the season comes around when their life is completely hijacked by tuitions and their studies if it hasn’t already been since the start of year. Surely they must know that these grades either crush their hopes of going to a good college or further elevates them? Then why don’t you give students the grades they truly deserve? The grades that work day and night for and still those students who have every right to an A must dread the thought of getting back their results because they don’t know if the examiner marked them properly. The daily mail UK published in an article that 122,500 children appealed for their grades to be overturned in the year 2015 and 23,200 had their grades changed. What do you say to the rest of the 99,300 who felt they did not receive the grades that they studied for? What do you say to a young adult whose hopes and dreams of going to his or her dream university have been crushed because the examiner marked them half-heartedly, not giving a flying fuck because to them we are just a single lower case letter. What do you say to an individual who wanted to enjoy his or her last year in school but can’t because they have to give retakes of the same subject they spent hours learning just so they wouldn’t have to face a situation like this?
The Cambridge International Examinations are a business plain and simple. It is the truth that every student who goes through this godforsaken system knows. You don’t believe me? Well ask any student whose ever had to get their paper re-checked. The systematic way all the levels of checking have been set almost makes a person believe that they give you a shit grade purposefully so that you have to go through that demeaning and painful process, so that they earn an extra buck.
Finally this is to all those students that have been disheartened by the grades that they received, DON'T LOSE HOPE. You are meant for great things in life, a single lower case letter does not define you; don’t let a grade define you, because that is not you.

THE GIRL WHO'S BREAKING THE INTERNET BY TOPPING IN CSS EXAM

Dr. Rabia Riasat
13th overall Pakistan in CSS
4th in girls
DMG/PAS (Pakistan Administrative Group)
41st common
Since childhood my parents have been inculcating this thought into my mind that I have to become a doctor when I grow up. It was not only their wish, it was my dream as well. Aiming for that white coat, I started my journey. By the grace of Allah I have been an achiever, I secured 3rd position in matric in Lahore Board over all Punjab and went to Kinnaird College, Lahore on Scholarship for FSc pre-med. Then I entered my dream institution, AIMC.
Allah has always been kind. I graduated with distinction. I still miss those mesmerizing 5 years at AIMC. This institution has been the pillar of success in my life. During house-job I decided to go through CSS. I prepared and took the exam and by grace of Almighty I stood 13th all over Pakistan and 4th among girls. I was allocated the PAS group and currently I'm working as Assistant Commissioner.
The one incident that made me take this 180 degree turn from medical profession to CSS was when I had to visit office of secretary health with my other fellow doctors for some issue. We were treated like we are nothing and we were made to sit outside his office on a wooden bench which was under the sun and had no shelter for 4 hours. After a cumbersome wait of 4 hours we were told that secretary sahab is busy and he cannot meet us as he had to go to some official lunch and we were told to come some other day. At that day I realized the culture of our country. No one pays respect to doctors who give away their own lives for saving others but all salutes are for the power corridors consisting of big bureaucrats and politicians. At that day I decides that "if I cannot beat them I will join them" and when I will reach this place no doctor would have to sit outside my office and would face humiliation and I will try to revive the respect and position of doctors as much as I can.
Civil service is a life changing experience. PAS is the prestigious and elite group of the Pakistan Bureaucracy and Allah has been kind enough to make me join this group. I have been given many chances to serve the ailing humanity.
But I still miss the white coat and guess what I just gave the march PLAB and cleared it as well. I hope Allah will help me in balancing both the fields.
Civil service and medicine both professions are near to my heart . Can't think of choosing one and leaving other.

IS CELEBRATING NEW ISLAMIC YEAR IS A RIGHT THING TO DO ?

It is shameful and embarrassing that in 2017 Muslims around the world continue to celebrate and
congratulate one another upon the arrival of the Islamic New Year, when in fact the entire Muslim community should be mourning the martyrdom of the grandson of the Holy Prophet (saw), Imam Hussain bin Ali (as), who was butchered on the plains of Karbala along with his family and companions.
We are constantly told that this happened 1400 years ago and thus should not be given such importance or attention. However, the Qur'an sets a precedent when it highlights to us that even to the nascent Muslim community, reflecting on the events of Jesus, Moses, Abraham and Noah was fundamental to their growth and development despite occurring thousands of years earlier.
The 10 nights of Muharram should be widely recognised as a period of mourning for each and every lover of the Holy Prophet (saw) as he himself cried over the atrocities that befell his grandchildren years before the incident took place.
"Anas bin Malik said, "The head of Al-Husain was brought to 'Ubaidullah bin Ziyad and was put in a tray, and then Ibn Ziyad started playing with a stick at the nose and mouth of Al-Husain's head and saying something about his handsome features." Anas then said (to him), "Al-Husain resembled the Prophet more than the others did." Anas added, "His (i.e. Al-Husain's) hair was dyed with Wasma (i.e. a kind of plant used as a dye)."

IS MR OLYMPIA 2017 TITLE FIXED ? PHIL HEATH ?

Mr. Olympia 2017 has been, yet again, a game of politics.
There were a few deserved victories yes, like Jeremy Buendia, who came and showed why he deserved to win, with insane muscularity, and conditioning that was absolutely perfect.
But there were others where the victory was too close to call, like Breon Ansley and Chris Bumstead, where the latter edged out the former in my opinion, but it could've gone either way.
But the category, and the crown, that everyone was waiting for was of course Mr. Olympia in the open category. A category where Phil Heath has stood dominant for 7 years now. A category where he seems to be truly unbeatable. Now, for those of you who don't know why, the answer isn't his genetics or condition anymore. It's politics plain and simple.
There was a time a couple of years ago where Phil Heath was truly dominant, bringing everything so perfectly that he couldn't be touched.
That wasn't the case this year however. This year, Phil brought a physique that shouldn't have been let anywhere near the sandow. His gut was out of control, his flows and proportions were wrong, and despite being conditioned, he just didn't have it.
Enter: Big Ramy. The uncrowned Mr. O of 2017. He came in, diced to the socks today. Holding no water in the glutes and hams unlike yesterday, his size insane, his midsection and waist tight and narrow and his conditioning exactly where it should've been. He took a big jump, going from 4th to 2nd, but it should've been first. Yes there were flaws in his physique, his calves weren't gigantic, and his hams were slightly smaller than they should've been. But that wasn't nearly enough to warrant him not winning the sandow.
But alas, it wasn't meant to be.
The way I see it:
1st: Big Ramy
2nd: William Bonac/Phil Heath
3rd: Phil Heath/William Bonac.

MINORITY ? WHAT'S THAT IN PAKISTAN?

In wake of the recent atrocities on minorities, I would like to share a paragraph from an article i recently wrote for a daily.
The white in our flag
Pakistan is a pluralistic country and minorities thrive here, that is why the country advocates fair treatment for the minorities in other parts of the world like Burma and other western states. However, some minor incidents surfaced in the news recently, nothing monstrous, where a Christian teenager, Sharoon Masih, was thrashed to death by his Muslim classmates for not being one of them. Moreover, a Christian prisoner, Indaryas Ghulam, was allegedly tortured to death in cell for not accepting the faith of the majority, over a dozen of Hindu girls have been forcefully converted in Sindh. And only a month ago a teenager escaped death at the hands of an angry mob, who accused him of blasphemy. However, let this not be an attempt to malign the pluralistic society of Pakistan, because the whole nation is aware of what the white in the Pakistani flag symbolizes and their perception, regarding minorities, is aligned with the founder of our beloved democracy.

DO U THINK U ARE STRONGER THAN THE BLUE WHALE GAME ? READ THIS THEN!

On the Blue Whale game:
I think people often get the causality of things like this a bit wrong. The idea that a game, challenge, or app by itself can convince you to self harm or commit suicide is fairly absurd. The power that something like this has can only be on someone who's predisposed or struggling with the commission of such acts anyway. You have to ask yourself: do people self harm because they play games like this, or do they play games like this because they already feel like committing self harm?
Which is why it's a little more important to turn our eyes away from transient trends like this to the mental state that enables them - the challenge will fall into obscurity within a month; the struggle with depression, or suicidal tendencies (and I am tempted to say 'within adolescents' here, but such a limitation would be both counterproductive and misleading) are not.
If you know someone going through that, don't shun them. Our society does a good enough job at either ignoring mental illnesses entirely, or portraying them as crises of faith; be open, be understanding, and be supportive, regardless of the emotional toll it takes on you - you might be able to take it; they might not.
And if you're going through that yourself (or do so in the future), please reach out to whoever you feel comfortable talking to, whether that's someone close to you, or a stranger. Personally, my door is open (should you feel comfortable talking to me about it) and if anyone feels like sharing this, it's an indication that theirs is too, no matter how little we talk. Self harm and suicide are never the answer. And if you're reading this, regardless of whether we're close or not, regardless of whether we have even ever met or not: I want you to live.

SHEER HARD WORK AND HUMBLENESS MAKES A COMMON MAN A LEGEND.

In the world as we are moving very fast and our lives are so prone and caught up into technology and we are so engaged in rationalizing our society that we have forgotten the basic norms and the value of small bit of things that could actually matter if we just give a little focus to that it would not waste our time or make us apart from our everyday activities but by just looking around of yourself for a while and indulging yourself in the busy atmosphere could give you many answers to un ask able questions.
But noo we are just sooo busy in interfering in others lives and complimenting other that we do not give a damn that if we give importance or just few minutes to people who are actually putting some time on us or for our environment.
So basically all the above speech was just about to think a little deeply into another perspective of life, so we all spend our time in university and in university canteen so you might have definitely seen a person who cleans the tables and some sometimes brings food to us or brooms the whole place or you might do not remember because you might have not given that much importance on the work he is doing there or may be you could have glimpse of him in your mind.
He is catering us in our university for past 22 years and doing amazing, such a humble and nice person if you talk to him you get to see how happy and satisfied he is with his job no ,matter how less fancy it is, it diverts your thinking in a way that even though in this era and time people do exist who does not value superficial luxuries of life but they are happy for what God has chosen for them and they are not disappointed but they are satisfied because they have faith that if this is the way God wanted them to be then maybe it’s the best for them, they do not try to de motivate their selves just because they have less luxuries in life or no luxuries but they gives us a lesson that they look at those people who are even below them that they cannot even work for themselves just because they are handicapped and they have some disability so they thank God for what they have.
So the moral is we have to stay synchronized with such type of people so that we can thank God for what he have enchanted us with things and only the real beauty of life lies in the happiness and how much you are contented with it because simplicity also has its own beauty which only few of us can see.

WAR KNOW A DAYS IS NOT FOUGHT WITH WEAPONS. ECONOMY IS THE ULTIMATE WEAPON

Today , in the realm of military power linked with economic challenges in the rising vulnerability of South Asia, Pakistan Army has successfully lived up to its task with leaps, and bounds of not only defending the external threat but also the existential internal networked warfare. You may agree or denounce but it is a corroboration that the war USA has not won in 15 years; Pakistan army has showed the guts of telling how to win a war with fervour, spirit of sacrifice, and Patriotism. From the guns of Brigadier Aslam men to Major tufail bravery in 1958 to Raja Aziz Bhatti Rifle company to Major Shabbir Sharif , fighting hand to hand with Narain Singh till Lt.col. Faisal Malik defusing IEDs, Hats off to our dauntless armed forces for everything good in Pakistan. A poetic verse for these peculiar people
Humain dunya sa kiya lena Shahadat hy mission apna
Paharon may dafan hongy baraf hogi kafan apna
Celebrate this day, concurrently commemorating those who laid their lives , family ,and wealth to bulwark in opposition to belligerents. May Allah bless all officers, and Jawans serving the nation unabated in courage. Ameen

REALITY OF GWADAR , PAKISTAN IS BECOMING A CHINESE COLONY ?

Game Changer
1. 91% of the income from Gwadar Port goes to the Chinese and 9% to Pakistan
2. Chinese companies get preferential treatment and tax exemptions (making it impossible for local companies to compete and opens the Pakistani market for a commercial invasion)
3. Money for the road network comes from Pakistan (so we're paying for the roads China will use to export stuff to us and the world)
4. Of the original $50b, over $30b was loans to build power plants for which we'll pay a) interest to Chinese banks b) exorbitant profits to Chinese companies who will build and supply to these plants c) guaranteed profits to the Chinese companies that will operate and own these plants d) backed by sovereign guarantee
5. We're making commitments to buy electricity at over 8 cents from coal-based plants and India is buying solar electricity at 4 cents (solar price is crashing every year). This will make our manufacturing uncompetitive for the next 15 years or longer
6. Meanwhile, the government falsely thinks tax revenue growth is economic growth. Excessive taxation is crushing the local industry and businesses and the government claims a "victory" every time it borrows more money
7. The Chinese are rational profit-minded businessmen...they have zero incentive to think about our future prosperity. Would they rather bolster our economy or own us?
So why is the CPEC "game changer" being sold to us with such force? As a state, we are feeling threatened by multiple regional and global forces. The Chinese investment is an insurance policy.

We're giving them what they want (profits), in return for what we want (security and survival).
What's the problem?
That the "game changer" is a mirage. Let's be honest about CPEC. It won't bring us prosperity. It's a debt trap we're willing to get into because we're desperate. Once we see it for what it is, we'll know what to do: tighten our belts, work hard, train our people and export more.
And start before it's too late.
The Chinese are our friends but we're going to turn them into our masters. Even God doesn't help a people that don't help themselves, so why would the Chinese?

RACE AGAINST TIME AND THE REALITY OF DEATH

But after spending all your life fearing the inevitable death. Revolving around the sun every year, realising that the end is nigh. Figuring the disease in your liver. Disturbed by the blurry vision and stammering voice. And wishing that the clock could go backwards and you could live your life again confronting what's only essential in life. By cutting down all what was redundant, painful and horrible. That doesn't happen. The clock can't go backwards. After all that, sometimes at your deathbed, all you need is a little reassurance. To combat eternal nothingness, perhaps all you need is someone who could tell you: hey if we weren't mortal beings and death was a random thing, I wish you had lived more. I wish you could go on for a very long period. But that doesn't happen. If we could live forever, why would we even wake up in the morning and go about our shit. There always will be a tomorrow. But that's the beauty of life, there always isn't a tomorrow. And we do run out of time. So as long as we are here, Carpe Diem. That's all one wishes to hear at deathbed, I suppose. DO THAT.

THE PERSON WHO INVENTED THE BLUE WHALE GAME

Man who invented #BLUE #WHALE Suicide 'Game' aimed at children says his victims who #Kill themselves are 'biological waste' and that he is 'cleansing society
Philipp Budeikin , 21, of Russia, is being held on charges of inciting at least 16 school girls to kill themselves by taking part in his Blue Whale social media craze. He told investigators that he thinks his young female victims were 'happy to die'. Angelina Davydova, 12, fell to her death from 14th floor on Christmas Day 2015. Anna K was found hanged to death after becoming obsessed with the 'game'
The Russian 21-year-old - who has now confessed to the crimes - says he thinks of his victims as 'biological waste' and told police that they were 'happy to die' and he was 'cleansing society'.

PEOPLE WHO THINK THAT THET ARE STRONGER THAN THAN BLUE WHALE GAME SHOULD READ THIS

HOW A BOOK HELPED A CHILD FIGHT DEPRESSION.

Many years ago, at 6 AM in the morning, I was extremely sad. It was not something personal. I don't even know what was it. Its hard to explain. It was as if someone really young from a distant land had died for no reason. It was as if the earth forgot all its poems as spring turned up. It was as if someone in the neighbourhood tried and failed to commit suicide for one more time; and only I knew the whole thing. It was as if the sun had purposely hid its face, and the crowds of men were going to turn faceless for a day. It was as if I wanted the world to come crashing down.
I mean, it all sounds very stupid, but it was really that kind of a day. I decided to take a stroll down the road. On my way, I could see multitude of people with an inexplicable sadness evidently visible on their faces. I mean, may be, there are days when everyone is just supposed not to be happy or anything. May be such sadness is embedded in our collective consciousness and it only comes alive when sun decides to hide itself, giving us poor folk, a dystopian novel setting.
I was sitting in the park around 8 AM, waiting for something good to happen: a little ray of sunshine may be. Something that could change what was happening. As a kid, with all your wide-eyed naivety and dormant reason, you are really empathetic. I mean, you just want everyone to be happy and sans souci in the town. Such days would really disturb you as a kid. This is just what children are: compassionate, carefree, willing and wanting to be happy, sensitive.
The day was really bad, but next one, or the one after it, was eventually going to be shiny and lively. People were soon going to be filled with joie de vivre again, after a sporadic bout of unhappiness. As a kid, you are hopeful too. So, I got over the day very soon. I was happy the next day, when everything seemed to fall into a perfect place, with birds singing and no apparent sign of gloom.
Somedays ago, I woke up at 6 AM with no apparent sadness. It was same kind of a day. I looked at the sky with steady stoicism and said to myself: dystopian gloom has prevailed for one more day. I was virtually laughing. For one more day, poor folk in town were going to be sad. May be someone from a distant land had died for no reason again. With a cold sense of apathy, I went back to my room and slept in peace. I was happy and content while going to bed. Do I even miss the childhood vulnerability and that unconditional compassion? I am not really sure. Not after that day. Not anymore.
I remember reading John Betjeman, who wrote: Childhood is measured out by sounds and smells and sights, before the dark hour of reason grows.

PEOPLE ARE GETTING DEATH THREATS ON SARAHAH APP

I live in Karachi and wo days ago I received a death threat from so called 'Bhatha owners in Karachi". I was completely shocked. But nothing happened but I have to express my stance which is completely opposite to what you think I'll say.

For those of you who think people getting hateful messages on Sarahah don't have a right to express their grief over that, you're victim blamers and here's why:
This is analogous to a girl being raped while she was going through a shady alley at 11 pm Obviously, the girl knew there's a risk of assault given the time and place. However, that does not mean that rape was justified and that sure as hell does not not mean that she doesn't have the right to complain about it. That's because the problem definitely wasn't with her but it was the guy who raped her.
People join Sarahah for various reasons; they're fishing for compliments, ego boosts, they want to not be bored and the list goes on. You can make fun of these people, you can call them petty and you can even get annoyed at their posts in your news feed. But you can't say 'they asked for it' or 'they knew it was going to happen so no need to complain'. This is because the bigger problem isn't with them, it's with people who give them hate and make it a point to shatter their self esteem. The point at which we say, 'they knew it was going to happen to them' is the point at which we ignore the hate and choose to accept it as part of joining Sarahah. We assume people have consented to the hate when they haven't. We subtly justify the hate and shift the blame from the horrible human being to the person who has started questioning his/her own worth.

THIS GUY GAVE THE PERFECT REPLY TO COKE STUDIO

Ahem, Coke Studio! Where do you think you are going? Sure, your episode quality seems to be improving a bit but that's not good enough now, innit? I take precious time out every Friday to listen to all of your songs and recently, I have been quite disappointed. Let's look at Episode 4's offerings.
Naina Moray (Javed Bashir, Akbar Ali and Aamir Zaki's Solo)
This is perhaps one of the finest Coke Studio productions of all time. I would highly recommend people listening to Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan singing Naina Moray, but to stick to Akbar Ali's part, he blew my mind. Javed Bashir never lets anyone down. Aamir Zaki's solo was all about feels. You will be dearly missed, Sir! This is what Coke Studio is all about. 10/10
Julie (Ali Zafar featuring Parchi/Daniyal Zafar)
Ali Zafar is like Coke Studio's John Cena. He moves the merch and is capable of great things, but he barely ever puts in the effort. This was a Rockstar rip-off. I hated it. I have no clue why they even mentioned Danny boy because he just stands there and looks pretty. The lyrics are tacky and the music is cringeworthy. AZ may have realized it mid-way. It explains why he decided to flex his biceps in the middle of a Coke Studio performance. Well done, AZ. This was beautiful garbage. Ugghh. 3/10
Jindjaani (Ali Hamza and Nirmal Roy)
Hmmm. This was pretty average. Nirmal has a beautiful voice and Ali Hamza sings well almost all the time, so I have little to complain about. At the same time, though, I have very little to excite me about this. 6/10
Lathay Di Chaadar/Whatever Farhan Bhai Sang (Farhan Saeed and QB)
I am confused. I really like Farhan Bhai's voice. He is like a reliable dude who can sing certain songs well. No denying that. QB can be super mercurial when she wants to be. She is capable of great punjabi singing (Sammi meri Waar), and then she is capable of murdering Latthay Di Chaadar. At first, I seemed to like it. On multiple listenings, I am shocked at the creative decision to use her for this song. They should have gone for someone like Fariha Parvez or Nirmal Roy. A lighter voice wouldn't have made this merry and joyous tune sound like a funeral dirge. Blegh. 5.5/10
Just look at the numbers. #BringRohailHyattBack!

BEAUTY OF DEATH AND SURVIVAL. STRONG MESSAGE TO THE TERRORISTS

Many years ago, I was randomly going through my newsfeed and I read about this man, who played cello at Baghdad bomb site, minutes after the deadly explosion. I think his name was Karim Wasfi. I vividly remember reading his interview. Upon asking why he did that, he answered that he wanted to minimise the damage through his art. He wanted to reach equilibrium – between tragedy, madness, pain on one side, and an artistic expression that defies it on the other.
I was going through my newsfeed again and I saw a man in Houston playing piano in his flooded house. His house was full of water. It was absolutely ravaged by the natural disaster. And he was sitting calmly there, playing piano. That's what art is: it helps you create an equilibrium, of sorts. It defies madness, grotesque and natural calamity.
Some years ago, I saw a photo. I don't know the exact place. But there was a policeman with his gun pointing at a woman, and she was pointing her pen at him in response. I think she – despite being unarmed – was less vulnerable as compared to the policeman with a gun. Or at least that's what I think of it.
I remember a few months ago, there was a deadly blast at Sehwan Shareef. Many innocent people died. But on the very next day, there was a greater number of people. And then there was this typical dance. That was a strong message spelled out through art: you can't  defeat us. You're a murderer. You'll kill us because you are so afraid. You'd kill us because that's your last resort. You'd kill us because you can't understand humane ways. And you can't fucking understand the power of art, the symbolic defiance. That exactly was the message. Or that is at least what I deciphered from all of that.
That is what I deciphered from all of that.
So, yes, art of any kind is very very powerful. I think the best way to fight back is through the power of art. Paint stuff, sing a stupid song, play that fucking guitar violently (the only violence you should ever think of). Play the cello. Sit in your flooded house and play that piano, with a calm that an idiot like me can't maintain on best of the days. Dance at shrines. Do everything you can with your artistic prowess. Do everything you can to fight them off. Because you are going to win. Because you might have already won. So what exactly are you afraid of? People who don't know shit except pressing a button and blowing themselves off to silence you? I think you have already won.
